Surrogacy is a situation where a woman gets pregnant and carries a child for the sake of another couple. It is usually on the basis of an agreement between the surrogate mother and the couple. Surrogacy takes many different forms around the world. There are countries where it is forbidden and other countries where it is allowed but regulated. In countries where there is not enough regulation, this leads to public health and human right issues. For example, as regards the surrogate mother, is it appropriate to pay her for the service she is providing? Or should we consider that one should not be paid for something that is a natural phenomenon of the human body?
